golem.de berichtet, das sowohl einige Smart Cover von Apple selber, als auch einige ähnliche Hüllen von Drittanbietern nicht mit dem neuen iPad funktionieren: diese schließen wohl ordnungsgemäß, vielmehr ist mit “nicht funktionieren” wohl das automatische ab- bzw. anstellen des iPads gemeint. So scheint es, das beim neuen iPad wohl die Polarität, also die Ausrichtung der Magnete in den Hüllen wichtig ist. – Das Hüllen von Drittanbietern daher eventuell, je nach Anbrigung der Magnete, nicht funktionieren ist ja noch verständlich. Aber das selbst Apple ein neues iPad entwickelt, zu dem die Smart Cover nicht mehr funktionieren ist schon … zumindest merkwürdig.

Immerhin bieten sowohl Apple als auch andere betroffene Hersteller Ersatz für betroffene Hüllen an. – Was soweit ja auch logisch ist, von kostenlos steht da nichts.

Das neue iPad mag kein Siri haben, aber immerhin: man kann diktieren und das iPad schreibt es dahernieder. Allerdings auch nicht, bevor Deine Wörter nicht alle auf Apples Server übertragen wurden. So funktioniert das Diktiersystem auf dem iPad genauswenig ohne eine halbwegs flotte Internetverbindung, wie Siri auf dem iPhone. – Natürlich wird Apple die Daten kaum speichern, um sie irgendwie gegen einen zu verwenden. Allerdings weiß man anhand der -zugegebener Maßen vorhandenen- Warnungen (lt. gizmodo.com Hinweise wie “information like”, “will also send Apple other information” oder “older voice input data … may be retained for a period of time”) nicht wirklich was und wie lange gespeichert wird. Und wenn Dein Diktat erstmal auf Apples Servern liegt, dann wird es dort auch wohl erstmal gespeichert bleiben.

Die augenscheinlichste Neuerung des neuen iPad dürfte das höher auflösende Display mit 264ppi (2048 x 1536 Pixel) sein. Und das ist sogar dann besser, wenn Du auf dem (neuen) iPad ein iPhone App startest, das nich universal, also auch für das iPad programmiert ist: so nutzt das iPad automatisch eine (hoffentlich) vorhandene Unterstützung für das Retina-Display des iPhones. toucharcade hat auch Bilderbeispiele für die bessere Auflösung einer (nativen) iPhone App auf dem iPad.

Hier und da wurden Stimmenl aut, das die Akkuleistung des neuen iPad nicht wirklich besser als die des Vorgängers sei, wobei “besser” offensichtlich mit “längere Laufzeit” gleichgesetzt wurde. Beachtet man aber das Prozessor-Upgrade sowie die verbesserte Grafikleistung des neuen iPad und bemerkt jetzt, das die Laufleistung des neuen iPad mit der seines Vorgängers ziemlich identisch ist, muss man wohl feststellen, das die Leistung “besser” und “länger” geworden ist; schließlich muss ja auch “mehr Technik” versorgt werden. – Auch beim iPhoneBlog ist man von der Laufleistung begeistert, zumindest im Zusammenhang mit der “Personal-Hotspot” Funktion: mit zwei per WLAN angeschlossenen Geräten (MacBook Air & iPhone 4S) “kosten” drei Stunden Online-Stunden lediglich 20% des Akkus.
